Russian Civilians Evacuate Border as Ukrainian Forces Launch Cross-Border Counterattack for 7th Day
As Russian forces work to contain the Ukrainian military’s offensive in the western border of Russia’s Kursk region, the neighboring Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has ordered a new wave of evacuations in the area.
Governor Gladkov stated on the messaging app Telegram that due to increased enemy activity in the Krasnoyaruzhsky border area, residents of the region are being relocated to safer locations for the health and safety of the people.
According to reports, Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia on the 6th of this month, sweeping through parts of the western Kursk region. This surprise attack may be aimed at gaining more influence in potential ceasefire talks after the US election.
Russian military bloggers have noted that the Ukrainian offensive caught Russian forces off guard, but the Russian military managed to stabilize the front lines of the Kursk region by the end of yesterday. However, Ukraine has occupied a small piece of Russian territory, and the fighting in that area continues today.
Governor Gladkov expressed confidence that Russian troops will do everything possible to address the emerging threats. The bold Ukrainian attack on Russian sovereign territory is likely to demonstrate to Western supporters that Kyiv can still launch large-scale military operations while attempting to gain negotiating leverage before potential ceasefire talks.
The situation remains tense as Ukrainian forces continue their cross-border offensive into Russian territory. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
